I'll never watch a VIC SOTTO movie again! | Iskul Bukol Review
Of all those years though, I always feel that the movies we've watched was never worth the buck we spent! We've tried to a horror flick, we end up laughing. We tried watching a sci-fi/adventure/fiction, we end up leaving the cinema. This year, we were torn between Tanging Ina ninyong lahat and Iskul Bukol. Because of Tanging Ina's corny trailers and rather later screening time, we found ourselves paying four tickets for Iskul Bukol. I wasn't expecting much because I have already watched dragging Enteng Kabisote movies before.
So in the cinema we went. After waiting for I guess 20 minutes of commercials, we finally saw the first scene of the movie.. Enteng (or Vic), was going ala Indiana Jones stealing a stick of some sort from a tribe that eventually saved Iwa Moto (this was the last scene she was seen). Vic was an archaeologist for a mission to decipher something. Actually, I didn't get the point of the whole movie. Parang chopsuey. Nagpunta sa Cambodia, nag under the sea, tapos reunion, tapos kung ano ano. I'm not in the position to tell how it ended because I slept from the midpart till the ending! Ngayon lang ako nakatulog sa movie. I felt that the title Iskul Bukol wasn't the best title for the film. The only Iskul Bukol there is probably the presence of Miss Tapia. The movie should have been tagged as ENTENG-DIANA JONES or BOSING GOES TO CAMBODIA. Walang kwenta talaga. Corny ang jokes, dragging at nakakaantok. Sayang lang ang 180 pesos. Bumili na lang sana ako ng medyas!
In short, the movie is crap similar to other Enteng movies or all MMFF movies for that matter! To think that this is the currently the second highest grossing?? What the heck. Ano na nangyayari sa taste ng Pinoy? Pababaw ng pababaw! The only consolation probably is the good cinematography. The scenes are sharp and crisp. But still this does make the movie as a whole any better. By the way, if your a fan of Sharon Cuneta, she has a special cameo here. So if you want her, go watch her. I don't know how much convincing was made to make her appear on the movie.
As for me, I swear not to watch any of Vic Sotto's movies! I'm also contemplating on watching any of MMFF movies next year! Ilalabas rin naman to pag may Pacquiao fight.
Hope this note will serve as a warning.. By the way I have nothing against Vic, it's just the movies he makes.
UPMBA Batch 2009 Christmas Party
The party wasn't fancy, just simple, but the people and the place are great. Some of them I haven't really talk to for more than hour perhaps in my whole MBA life but if I had the chance I would really want to share some laughing time with them. The food was ok as well. Potluck. And the beer was just overflowing. Bestfriend JOEY, who by the way won the best NIGHTCAP turned red Chinese all throughout the party. Nice.
We played some games that blew my head away laughing. The MBA pips definitely had fun playing HEPHEPHORRAY (popularized by the WOWOWEE program)BEER DRINKING, MODIFIED TRIP TO JERUSALEM among others. Congratulations by the way to the ever competitive yet pretty Lina for winning most of the confusing games. She had so many chocolates after the event. Nanalo rin pala ako sa isang game na di ko alam yung pangalan. Basta the game was to put masking tape on body parts that start with letter P like pusod, puson and you know what. Hehe. The time flew so fast during that time. Buhay pa rin ang dugo till 2am! This is probably the last party I'll have with my MBA batchmates and I am so grateful to grace the event. Last na to hopefully kasi if not, I probably did not pass the final compre exam that I have to attend another batch party! Sana naman hindi.
I'll surely miss these guys. Sana after ng MBA life we'll have more parties to attend and liquors to drink. Hehe.
Official Amazing Race Asia Season 3 Winner - Sam & Vince

Darn! So my source is wrong! Sorry guys. Let me correct myself and say that the official winner of Amazing Race Asia Season 3 is Team Hongkong - Sam & Vince! Congratulations!
I cut class just to see the episode hoping that my source was correct. To my disappointment though, the last team to arrive were the half naked boys of Hongkong. Again best buddies tandem won this year's race.
The first task involved the taming of the camels and transferring them to their cages. The road towards the place was challenging already. The 4 x 4 vehicles had a hard time passing through the Oman's sandy pathways. The first to accomplish the task was team Malaysia, followed by Philippines and Hongkong.
The girls immediately found the next stop where teams have to find a key within the sandsusing a metal detector that would open a chest where the next clue is. Looks easy. But with the 41 degrees Celsius scorching Oman sun plus the heat of the sand, the task was challenging enough. The Malaysians took the lead once again but as they trek to the next stop, they were stuck in the sands. The tires seem to soften because of the heat. It took them much time because Team Philippines were able to finish the task immediately and the Malaysians were still on the same place. With the help of some locals they managed to get through. The Hongkong buddies were in a far third.
Philippines were the first to arrive to the airport followed immediately by Malaysia and Hongkong. Philippines and Hongkong had an easy time booking a soonest flight to Phuket Thailand where the next stop is. Malaysia had a difficult time to create a sense of urgency to the airline people in booking a flight. This spelled disaster to them.
From this point on, the Hongkong buddies with the help of their very smart taxi driver, managed to get to the remaining stops first. They get to see first the cube inside a drum full of ice cube. They were the first one who get to the middle of the sea to get the next clue. A detour made them choose to pull or plunge. The first option was to pull strings of empty oyster shells to find the marked shell while the second option was to plunge in to the blue murky water to search for a big oyster clam were a huge pearl is. The boys first choose to plunge but soon after, when they thought that it was similar to looking for a needle in a haystack, they immediately went to the pull option.
During this time, Geoff and Tish were having a hard time maneuvering their boat towards the pull option area. Sam and Vince were in the shore already digging their way searching for the chest that they would bring by foot towards the final pitstop. Geoff and Tish had the opportunity to catch up a little. They also saw the box a little later than Sam and Vince. Geoff muscles was not enough to pull the chest first that could probably put them in the lead.
The next scene was Team Hongkong inching towards the pitstop where all the participants are waiting and cheering for them. At this point I was really really saddened. I really thought Philippines would win this year but I'm definitely convinced that the buddies deserve the win. They were very clean and even helpful in the race so I guess good karma rewarded them.
So again sorry for posting a wrong article on who the winner is. And again congratulations to Sam & Vince of Hongkong! Next year perhaps, Philippines will win this exciting race..
Peace!
New Gmail Themes Tab

I was surprised and delighted to see that Gmail finally updated their mail service by introducing themes on their layout! Gmail users can now choose from a variety of color schemes (even design!) to match their mood or personality.
This innovation is a very welcome change indeed especially for those who prefer a more colorful feel as they check or maintain their emails. Aside from these, the Google managed to introduce also several "twicks" in their system (i.e. embedded calendar, witty quotation for every email sent among others) which are indeed very cool innovative.
You can check these options by clicking settings options found in the upper right corner of the page and press either Themes (for change in design/color scheme) or Labs Tab (for the several other options)
Enjoy Gmail-ers!

Amazing Race Asia Season 3 Winner - Geoff & Tisha Philippines

I have been following this race eversince I first got to view the show in AXN and was rooting for Team Philippines to win (of course). Their win was very refreshing especially after Mark and Rovilson of last years' Amazing Race (who had the dominate most of the challenges) had been beaten of by the best buddies Adrian & Collin of Singapore. The frequent guestings of Geoff and Tisha on the RX and Magic 89.9 was an easy sign of how the race ended. Geoff never lost his confidence and fun side as he narrates his favorite and not-so favorite parts of the race while Tisha can't hide her happy and cant-wait-to-see-the-final-episode tone on her voice. Haven't seen the actual race as well but if your on Sky Cable, you can watch it on Thursday, November 20, 2008 at 9pm. The top 3 teams will also watch the finale on Thailand where the Victory Party will also commence.
Mabuhay Team Philippines!
LSS - Love Song Syndrome
If I can find the words to say, I never have to feel this way
Not knowing just what to do when I’m with you
My friends they tell me that I shouldn’t hurry
Everything keeps goin’ strong ‘Coz you keep it going on
Though i have to say how much I love you..
Oh Ana can’t you tell and see? What you’re doing to me?
Oh Ana this feeling I just can’t hide Keeps driving me wild
Oh Ana I need you here with me
I wish you could be
Oh Ana won’t you stay with me?
Your eyes, they look through me. Your smile they fool me.
I never thought I’d love again
But this time I hope it never ends
I have to let you know
I love you oh Ana
Brand New

OCTOBER 30: Mom called me from the other room. I was a bit irritated. It was the fifth time I responded to her call on the same hour. She was smiling when I came to her. I responded with a grouchy face. Like a ten year old girl, she picked up something from her drawer and started to dangle it to the air. It was a black key. Clueless, I got hold of the black key. "Where do you want me to go? Will I pick something?", I said. As I was talking to her, she still kept smiling. Oddly as well, the key was not familiar to me. So when I started to look at the key, I shouted at my mom, "Maaaah! Ano to??!" She laughed and told me to stop shouting. I ran towards the window and looked which car it is. I saw an old Toyota Car. I was still happy though because the car still looked nice. Then I went back to my mom and asked her how much did she bought the second hand car. She said "Second hand? Brand new yun! Nakapark sa likod".
I shouted again for the second time!! This time my shout was a mix of amazement and a bit of resentment. We just bought a car four months ago and being a tightwad myself, I really think it was untimely to buy a new car. She told me that she hasn't given me any grad gift the last time and the car was both her advance and late grad gift for me. I just hug and kissed her after hearing that.
I went down and see wherethe new car is. It was a Vios 1.3. I cant help but smile ear to ear as I open it. She really knows me well. It was the most fuel efficient car of its kind and consumes the second cheapest fuel next to diesel - unleaded with 10% biofuel. It looked a bit small for me but surprisingly, I fit well in the driver seat(there is still room for one person at the back). I have to go back to my mom and thank her again. I also ask how to start the car. I have to press the clutch pala as I turn the key. Idiot. Hehe
It was already two weeks since I got the car. And I was so satisfied with it. She's my new sweetheart for now till my real one comes home. Hehe. The steering wheel was amazingly light - super power steering, though the shift gear is a bit hard to move. One 3/4 tank which cost me 1,400 pesos lasted nine days! Considering that I'm a advertising guy who goes around every so often, a school boy who goes to schoool 4 times a week and that our home is 1okm away from the office, the car was really damn efficient! I really love this car. She has no name and plate number yet. I'll give her a name soon.
So again thanks to my so generous mom for the car. I'll be extra nice and masipag to compensate this wonderful gift! :)

It's been 13 days!
Well anyway, here I am. Stealing some minutes of work time to update you of what's happening in my boring life. First about the hiring in Alchemy thing, I found out that using 88db.com, sulit.com.ph, friendster and facebook have generated quite a lot of responses already. It's just that we haven't started calling them yet. We have to finish some assignments first to properly screen future Alchemists. More about Alchemy, we're busy doing a campaign for one interior design/furniture company. We already finished doing market research for them and we're on our finishing the marketing strategy to guide us on how the campaign should go. Hope everything'll be finished as planned. Also, our ads on Toshiba TVs were on the broadsheets the past week. Weeks of going back and forth to Las Pinas and revising ads several times finally paid off.
Enough of work, school naman (later love life promise). It was also a tough week last week. Reports here and there and midterms kept me tense and worried from time to time. I volunteered to present my business concept in our Entrepreneurship class. Being a spa-natic and car-thusiast as i am, I wanted a business that would have both. So what I wanted was a spa that would not only destresss me but also takes care of my car while I'm being massaged. Basically its a spa with free car wash! Hehe.. Not that brilliant siguro but the execution would be terrific, the spa will have a cool lounge where people could sip free coffee as they watch TV and/or see their cars being washed by gorgeous women (yes they'll be in their sexy attires while washing your car).. As expected, the guys in the class where laughing with me as presented the concept. Dirty minds. They expressed their interest already in investing on the business! Judging basically on the class' reaction, I think this would definitely click.
About me love.. I choose not to be elaborate on this. Hehe. But its enough to say that she keeps me going and going. I'm still having this long distance relationship with her - so far so good! Can't help but smile (without her knowing) whenever she shares her pimple problem as if she had it the first time! Well, anyone with flawless skin would be dreaded to hear anything about scar, pimples, etc., Really wish she'd be home soon and squish those damn pimples for her.. Haha.
Missed doing this! I hope I can do this more often this week! Bye for now, back to advertising muna. :)

Iceland "Best Country To Live In" No More

U.N.'s just awarded the country last year as the "best country to live in", with its residents deemed the most contented in the world - and now no more.
Iceland is one of Europe's wealthiest countries - thanks to its deregulated banking industry that dates back only in the early 1990's. According to the Associated Press, the Icelanders are now watching their economy as it implodes, their currency losing almost half its value, and their heavily exposed banks collapsing under the weight of debts incurred by lending in the boom times. The government had earlier announced it had nationalized the bank under emergency laws enacted to deal with the crisis.
Goes to show that a wealthy country like that of Iceland won't be insulated in such a financial crisis and that any country including ours can suffer the same fate. THE WHOLE COUNTRY, BANKCRUPT? I can't imagine how its Prime Minister is doing to turn this sorry state around. I also can't imagine that banks are closed and cannot even get hand of my hard-earned savings. Really hope this won't happen to the country soon. It would be chaotic.

Top 3 Business Ideas

Our Entrepreneurship course in MBA requires us to think of a business that we dream to establish in the near future, regardless of whether we pursue it or not. To motivate the class, the professor provided several lectures on what it takes to be an entrepreneur, myths and facts of putting a business and some insights and experiences that he had while managing his own huge businesses. By the way, this professor belongs to the ULTRA HIGH NET WORTH INDIVIDUALS (individuals who have more than $30M in financial assets -- thus the caps lock ;)), so he really does know what he is talking about.
So now, I'm thinking of a business that I may want to put up aside perhaps from the advertising agency that we are currently running. I'm thinking of a business that is not seasonal (like a christmas tree business which sells its peak of course during the christmas seasons), a business that does not requires much capital (like a flour manufacturing that needs expensive equipments), and a business that wouldn't take long before revenues come in (like businesses that involves a lot of research or testings). Given the what-i-dont-wants in a possible business, I have come up with these choices..
1st. A SPA/Phone a Massage business. It does not require any inventory, thus no problems on spoilage whatsoever. Plus, with the ever stressful lifestyle of Pinoys nowadays, including myself, going to a massage or spa, briefly relieves you with stresses or pressures. My spa should offer different services though to cater a certain niche and I must hire the best masseurs/masseuse for my clients to keep on coming back.
2nd LPG Dealership business. I think this is a nice venture as well because most if not every household must be using gasoline stoves in cooking food, thus the supply is inelastic, as they say, which means even if the gasoline goes way up, consumers will still buy gasoline. Not bad eh? I should only secure a safe place to put invetories of LPG tanks (so to avoid explosions, hehe), do some marketing in the area, and that's it, a surefire business.
3rd. Still related in fuels and more grandiose than the previous one, Biodiesel plant business. As we all know, the prices of gasoline will continue to go up and will be depleted soon. Several biofuels from plants have been discovered as options to gasoline. Samples sources are coconut, corn, soy and even the newly discovered plant jathropa. Of these alternatives, I'm going with the Jathropa plant. Jathropa is a non-edible plant that can be planted in any kind of soil - dry or non-arable, so there will be no competition with the edible crops like rice and corn. Also its plant oils produces more than what the coco or corn can produce making the plant more revenue generating. Though at this time we are not using biofuels wholly (we're only using 10% blend in certain gasolines), soon the demand for this fuel will rise and that a lot of car manufacturers are making cars that can take in either electricity, biofuels or the regular gas (read my article about Volt - My dream Car)
So that's about it. These are my choices for a possible business venture. Still confused which one to choose given the considerations I mentioned. How about you? Do you have a business in mind you like to share?
Eagle Eye

Decided to finish the "holy-day", at least for the Muslims, by watching Eagle Eye, a suspense-filled, action packed, conspiracy thriller from Paramount-Dreamworks. The movie quite roused my interest since it debuted at number in the box office and I received a lot of good reviews from friends. So together with my brother and cousin, we paid Gateway a visit.
There isn't much mall goers at that time. Maybe most of the people decided to stay at the comfy of their homes. This is good though - less queues and better seats for us. We were just wishing that the movie is good as well.
And so we thought.
Though the movie did put us on the edge of our seats, the idea of the protagonists being manipulated by a "digi-voiced" girl that made them an instant national threat is quite really far from reality. We were disappointed when the whole plot of the movie revolves on a super advanced computer that acts as a Big Brother of the whole US - who controls all automated equipment to coerce anyone to follow its commands.
But I have to give credit on the hyperactive scenes of the movie. We still remember that we keep saying our 'aaarghhhs' whenever the black Cayenne was tortured. Darn love that car! Just learned that the movie was co-produced by Spielberg, thus the Minority Report feel of the movie.
Overall, not really a bad movie to see. Would still like to see this in the big screen because of the really smashing scenes. After a week or two though, the film will do poorly in the box office because of the story. (By the way, the actor here kinda resembles me. Lol!)
What to do when there is nothing to do
As I remember, one of the reasons why I started blogging is to ease me with day to day stress and not to be the source of it. Maybe it's because I want to do so many things with this blog that I tend to neglect what my body is telling me. I just can't help but try discovered hacks, cool widgets, or money making schemes among many other things that would make my blog more worthy of your visits. Hehe. But this time, I won't stress myself with these things. I'll stick to the original purpose of this blog - to vent out lalaksut's thoughts and to share a slice of his life and his new discoveries.

Goodbye?
It was my first time being sent to an ER and it was quite funny to be on an ER because of a simple Migraine. But Lord I swear, it was not just a simple Migraine. I was about to smash my head on the wall because of the pain and I act as if I'm in mental ward asking myself why I'm experiencing such pain! I get enough sleep the night before that, I ate my breakfast, I did not do anything strenuous. Nothing! Seconds of waiting for the doctors diagnosis was like waiting for hours, while pressing my head as hard as I can.
To top it off, the doctor who attended me was my classmate in gradeschool! Nice. Our first meeting after 13 years, she caught me like an addict of some sort. She kept on asking if I can remember her! My goodness, at that moment I was telling myself "Can you treat me first and let's do the chitchat later??" I was really like a lunatic there. Good thing I managed to hold off.
After two injections in the veins (which by the way is another first time -and it hurts!) for almost two hours, I was finally relieved. I managed to talk to my classmate like a normal person. We exchanged numbers and bid my many thank yous.
While going back to the office, I was thinking. I had two serious ailments this month, hypertension and this migraine - the same month I started doing this blogging. I don't know. Am I correct to relate what I'm experiencing to blogging? Is this hobby really eating me up? I'm just wondering.. Do you have the same experience? Should I say goodbye to blogging?
David Cooks' First Single: Light On
"The music is rock and it's pretty undeniably me, which I'm retty excited about. There's gonna be some interesting twists and turns ... that will keep people interested."
This further want me to buy the album being a Cook fan that I am. You can guys check the said track which is by the way available in iTunes by the end of the month. I'll probably wait for the album instead. You guys can check out the song here.
The song indeed has the Cook signature Rock vibe and I can imagine his overstretched mouth, closed eyes and quite bended knees while seeing the song. It's probably not as radio friendly as Archuleta's single "Crush", which is by the way very mushy for my taste, but I'm sure the rest of the tracks will surely top the Billboard Charts. Let's wait and see.

Hypertension Update
So first an update on my check-ups. I had my blood tests and ECG done the past weekend. It was only yesterday when I had a hand on the results. Guess what, my glucose, uric acid, and good cholesterol level is perfect. My bad cholesterol level is even below the normal range so that's a good thing too. Having seen this results, I rewarded myself with a mouthful of special shawarma, dumplings and Coke - yummy! Can't blame me, my mom has been feeding me with nilagang everything - bangus, tilapia, talong, for days now! But still, she doesn't want me to eat anything salty or fatty "just to be sure". Mga moms talaga. Bad news though, my ECG results did not turned out good. The report says that I have "poor airway flow". I didn't really get what it means but the doc said that it's not at all life threatening "at the moment". Goodness gracious... Can somebody explain this for me please? But I'm really thankful that after taking the recommended meds, I'm feeling a lot better now. Guess I have to really watch I eat and not stress myself to much.. I will probably visit another doctor this week for a second opinion. I am still in denial with the ECG results. Never thought I will have a heart problem this time.. I really have to be health conscious now! Darn, it's too early for me to that!
By the way, thank you to the readers and new found friends who sent their well wishes! God bless rin sa inyo!

Heroes: Volume 3 "Villains" Premier in September 22

Everyone's favorite TV series will be premiering its 3rd season on Monday, 22nd of September and I'm just as excited as everyone else! I bet Youtube will be working overtime come Tuesday morning to accommodate all the Pinoys who can't wait to see the first two-hour episode of the said series. Who wouldn't be?? I can still remember how Season 2 abruptly ended because of the writer's strike last year. So everyone's gone gaga on what follows next to this very addictive series. Good news for the fanatics out there because NBC had just put out clips of the premier episode..
According to Sam of HeroesSeries.Com,
The first clip features Future Claire and Peter, and answers the question of why Future Peter traveled back into the past in the first place; the second clip shows Hiro in his (very uncomfortable and bored) new position as the CEO of his father’s company; the third clip shows the aftermath of the assassination attempt on Nathan; in the fourth clip, Sylar makes a visit to Claire’s house; in the fifth clip, Mohinder and Maya discusses stuff; and in the final clip, Hiro take a punch to the face courtesy of silver-tongued speedster Daphne. Ouch.
Heres the preview of Heroes in its official website. I'm so excited to see this! Oops watch your BP! Hehe
140/100 at 24

The past days I have been complaining about the terrible headache that I'm experiencing especially on the nape area. It's been excruciating dealing with this pain and the normal advil does not affect me at all. After visiting the nearest clinic, it's confirmed that I am having high blood pressure - 140 over 100! Not a big deal perhaps for some. But at my age?? 24? High blood??
I can't help but be amazed since I'm not eating to much fatty o salty foods lately and I have engaged myself in weekly swimming exercise. I don't smoke or drink. And I don't stay up late much at night! These things I thought are the symptoms of having HB. The doc said that it might be hereditary, which I guess is true since my mom and lola have frequent HB attacks. I often underrate what they were going through up to this day when I found myself having one. So this is how it feels. You feel weak, tired, sleepy, irritated and irritated! (Oh I just said that) Now I'm taking meds that my lola is taking. I still can't believe it. I use to believe that I am a healthy person, though not a fit one.
From this day on, I won't be eating foods that HB should not eat - fatty and fried foods, salty foods (I'll miss toyo and bagoong:(),and most of all chocolates. Waah, ano bang parusa to??.
--
So it's not blogging that's bringing me headaches, it's my genes..
I think I should..
So from this day on, I promise myself to do the following:
As soon as I get to the office, I allow myself to do an hour and half of some blog housekeeping, checking mails and little chat with my friends. The rest of the morning till the late afternoon, I should keep my head on work related stuff. I'll do some checking of mails (and blogs, please?) right before I leave work for night school.
So that's it! Let's see if this formula works! Goodluck to me!

My New Dream Car: Chevrolet Volt

I was browsing todays newspaper and saw the full page centerfold ad of Chevrolet celebrating 100 Years of Great Cars! Great cars indeed because GM had successfully introduced some of the most advanced and stylish cars in history.
What really caught my attention was their newest addition - Chevrolet Volt. Not only does it boast a very modern and futuristic design, but the car's engine can be run by either gasoline, biodiesel, hydrogen and electricity! GM has decided on a new descriptive terminology to distinguish it from traditional hybrids. They are calling the Volt an E-REV, for "extended-range electric vehicle." This is in part justified since there is no mechanical linkage between the petrol engine and the wheels.
Chevrolet Volt .., a battery-powered, extended-range electric passenger vehicle that uses a gas engine to create additional electricity, making pit stops practically passe. The technology behind the Volt concept, GM's E-flex System, allows electricity to be produced from gasoline, ethanol, bio-diesel or hydrogen, helping to provide a global solution to diversifying transportation energy sources.
The Volt concept vehicle was officially unveiled at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) on January 7, 2007 in Detroit, Michigan an was announced to be produced in 2010. It roughly costs 2.2M pesos @ Php46/dollar. I just can't wait to drive those wheels!
Makoy's Memoirs of a Certified Blogger

I have long been hesitating to start and maintain a blog if not because of some online blog gurus who have sort of influenced me to take blogging seriously. My very proximate inspiration is my officemate's Greenfield's who have religiously updated his blogs with well-written and opinionated articles. Also, my new hobby was not possible if not because of Makoy's Memoirs of a Certified Blogger along with his two blogs - Make Money Online with Makoy and Makoy's Literary Writings. Though I have not met him personally, it seems that he knows what interests a business, music & movie buff like me.
There are other reasons why I have subsribed from his blogs. First is that all of this blogs are definitely worthy of reading. His blog is my source of the latest scoops, tips and even a slice of his Singapore life. It is likewise very current and informative.
So when I heard that he was nominated in the Philippine Blog Awards, I was not surprised at all. I together with the Makoy believers out there are hereby endorsing Makoy's blog as the PBA Blogger's Choice. Hope Makoy would bring home the bacon!
Pinoy Dream Academy Grand Star Dreamer (whew)

What a long winning title to have! Whew.. Anyway, I've been following this reality program for two nights now. As of writing, Cris Pastor and Van Roxas have been proclaimed as the 5th and 4th runners-up garnering only around 2% and 6%, respectively of the total votes. I was quite surprised because I was rooting for the sensual and the most improved Cris as the winner while Van as the 1st runner up. I was also expecting that the voting public will go for the 'looks' more than the talent. Their performance last Saturday was impressive - no mistakes, very natural. Oops just this minute, Liezel was proclaimed 3rd runner up?? Whaaat??
Well, even if I'm not a fan, is Liezel more worthy than Miguel who have been struggling to keep up with the competition. Miguel who have been almost eliminated every week? Shoots. This contest proves to be unreliable by the minute. I don't have the urge to finish the program anymore! Fearless forecast. It's quite obvious that Miguel and Bugoy will be vying for the top spot. Miguel might be using their family wealth to buy votes while Bugoy seemingly bank on the votes of the masa who could easily relate to him. I dunno. Neither of them for me is deserving. Both of them are lanky and effeminate. Yeng Constantino of last's seasons PDA has been the most impressive product of PDA. Seeing her perform with the finalists proved that she is a true winner. No one could match her musicality, her facial expression, everything! I'll probably ask my officemates on who the winner was tomorrow morning.
Tightwad Lalaksut | Where are you?

My peers do often call me the Lord of all Tightwads, which of course, I totally disagree.. sort of! *wink* I'd rather call myself a wise spender or, just a man practicing the 'delaying gratification' concept - save now spend and enjoy later. Maybe this attitude is due to my ultimate goal of retiring at an early age and being 'matipid' is one way of achieving that goal. But it seems to me that being the thrifty persona in me is expiring and it drives me crazy..
Before, I remember, I always keep track of my savings. I either check my accounts online or through phone just to check whether my hard earned savings is still intact. Now, I don't even know what is left of my account, and worse even, I can't remember the last time I put money in my account! I also check how much I'm spending using my credit card and when it is due. Now, I'm almost always surprised that I purchase that much in month! What is happening to me!
Before, when I go to coffee shops to finish school or office work, I tend to bring with me a sachet of instant coffee just to avoid paying 150 bucks for a starbucks coffee! Yes I did that! But now, I really care less how much startbucks coffee I consume in a week. I'm probably spending 2,000 pesos in a month for Mr or Ms Starbucks. I'm rattling while writing this!
Before, when I go to school, I usually tell myself to just ride a jeep so that I end up paying just 7.50 instead of spending 100 or so worth of gas. Now I can't even think of riding a jeep and often justify that riding the PUVs are dangerous and slow moving.
And now, despite of the depleting savings, I'm even thinking of many things I need to buy! Waah! I really don't know what is happening to me or if this is a good or bad thing. I can think of many before and now scenarios but it sort of depresses me. Especially thinking how much bank account was before the year starts. Aahh. I guess I have to work harder to satisfy this spending urge. Hope that in time I could revive at least 30% of the tightwad-ness I had before
Typhoon Marce Until Saturday
I was on my way to a meeting yesterday as Marce was busy pouring the streets once again with hard rain and thunderstorm. Two nights have passed and the storm hasn't shown any signs of slowing down. As expected, the rains and the clogged drainage immediately turned Manila into an instant urban lake making traffic worse every second.
Good thing I brought with me a high car which makes me easy to pass through the floods. I saw several commuters who had no choice but to drench their legs onto the dirty street torrent. I remember experiencing the same thing when I was in elementary. I had to walk the floods till home. Immediately soaked myself in a basinful of alcohol afterwards. Well, I think Pinoys have to live with this till Saturday when the storm is expected to flee the country. Hopefully it does because I'm extra slow and less productive during these cases and kinda sleepy all the time. I guess I have to increase coffee intake till this lazy season ends.
3rd Trimester: Welcoming "Fresh Stress"

The 3rd trimester of my 3rd year in the MBA had officially started this day, 9th of September. If not because of an email from a classmate informing me that she might not go to school, I would probably miss one of most important day of each trimester. Why important?
Probably, some might say that the first few classes are not tedious since the class would probably do some 'housekeeping', as what are professors puts it. This means checking the attendance, getting to know the class and the course etcetera. But for me, this day is equally important for two reasons. First is that this is your first encounter with the professor. Professors do remember students who either talked, asked or recited in class. So as much as possible, talk on the first few days of class and shut up the rest of the trimester. Easy! Secondly, this is the day professors asked the class to group. Most of the time, your group determines 70% of your class performance especially because most of the requirements are done with a group. Cases, reports and even exams are done collaboratively with a group! This is important for me since I am lazy stude who just rely on what my groupmates can accomplish. Hehe.. So i tend to squeeze myself to the nerdy but nice dudes.
I just can't accept that a fresh new trimester is coming! I'm already stressed thinking about it. But I guess I have to deal with. Besides, after this I have one more subject to take plus the exam and I'll be done and over this. I'm just like I have someone who I can talk to whenever I feel this way. Thank God.
I'm a Nuffnanger
I've learned that aside from the usual Tri-Media, blogging has been a new medium to advertise and promote a product. Sounds appealing for me since being in the advertising industry myself, why not take this opportunity to use my blog as a platform for advertisers to promote advertisers' product. Not only do I voice out my thoughts and 'discoveries' but I can also earn from it! Not to mention that the icon is a complementing adornment to my blog.
Signing up to Nuffnang is a no-brainer and it won't harm you neither. After you sign-up, the registration will be processed in 48 hours. So go ahead join the bandwagon and be a certified Nuffnanger!
Makati Aquatic Sports Arena - Best Public Pool
This weekend had really been a physical one for me – a welcome change from the intellectual stress I’m getting from doing cases for school. Last Sunday, I went swimming again with my bud in MASA Makati. The place is located beside the Makati and Garden on JP Rizal Extension, West Rembo. Its just a 25 minute MRT ride away from Cubao where I live. Unlike the first swimming we had in Amoranto, where people from all walks of life (or should I say all sidewalks of the urban shanties who I guess just had their first taste of chlorinated water for the week), our visit in MASA: was very visually appealing, clean and therapeutic.
The place can be compared to a decent resort in Laguna or Rizal – the façade is well maintained, the pool is blue (which tastes the ordinary drinking water by the way) and the locker and shower area is really decent! The normal rate for the unlimited use of the pool is 150 pesos. It’s kinda cheap considering the well maintained facilities. But if you’re a resident of Makati, the fee is just down to 50 pesos! Whoaa! On that moment, I really wished I was a Makati. Ang daming benefits! But of course, we tried to go around with the rule and asked if the gay dude manning cashier could grant us the discounted price. So with a few *wink* *wink*, we found ourselves paying just 100 pesos! Hehe..
So off we went to the pool area. The place is not crowded at all! I think there were only less than ten people swimming. Four of which, it seems, are students of an olympian looking half naked Chinese dude who shouts every now and then. We watched the students for a while and were so impressed on how fast and effortless they swim. Kayang kaya ko yun, I murmured. So after we wore our swimming cap and goggles, we plunged into the blue water. Aahh, very refreshing! But unlike the swimmers, I think I had four stops before reaching the other end of the pool. I was kinda frustrated. I was literally gasping for air as I swim! My bud also had difficulty breathing at first but it was soon before he swam like a pro! After a few tries, I finally managed to swim end to end non-stop. Compared to Amoranto , we lasted for two hours in the pool. Somehow our stamina improved as well as our swimming techniques. I considered it a good motivation also because the first time in Amoranto, I can’t even pull myself from the pool or even wear my briefs because of how exhausted I was for a 45 minute swimming.
After we swam, we felt ok and not as strained as before. This time, the experience was therapeutic. We agreed to do this every week so that we could at least reach 30% of the skills of the swimmers we saw. I just hope we could think of a way to go about the standard rate next time –perhaps making a fake yellow card ID to enjoy the special Makati rate. Hehe. Again I want to send my kudos to the Makati government for putting a facility like that of MASA. At least in a way, you know where the taxes in Makati go to.
Bowling & Buffet

My throws almost always go to the canal or hits one or two pins unlike Edward, Darren and Budz who either gets a strike or a spare! Of course, come the second round, I manage to get several strikes and spare making me the 4th highest. Hehe.. Everyone had fun especially the girls. Though they are very feminine throwing the bowl, they are equally as good as the others. By the way, we have with us Edward’s girlfriend and her brother and Jack who I first thought Darren’s girlfriend. She’s cute and has nice teeth AND she is engaged to a tall guy friend of Edwards.

UP: Cheerleading Champions of 2008
Congratulations to my Alma Mater who were successful defending the first place trophy in the 2008 UAAP Cheerleading Competition. Here’s a clip of their winning moment.
A new record of around 24,000 students attended the event last September 7, 2008!
Better luck next time to UST Salinggawi Dance Troupe and FEU Cheering Squad who won the 1st and 2nd runner-up awards, respectively. J

Credit Cards
- Know the cutoff date of each of your credit cards. If possible, write the date at the signature area of the card.
- When buying an item, always check what the date on that day is and check which of your credit cards had just finished its cut off. So for example, you have a Citibank (cut off: 22nd of the month), HSBC (cut off: 30th of the month) and you're buying something today (6th of Sept), choose the HSBC card to take advantage of paying the item more than the usual 30 day period with no interest! In our example, the item bought can be paid sometime November.

Gloria Jeans - Cubao: My Nerd Venue!

Hi again! This is my second post for the day! It usually takes me months to follow one blog entry and here I am during my busiest weeks, still taking time to write something in my blog.
I'm now here at one comfy seat in Gloria Jeans Cubao. I just learned that our class in Finance is suspended - which should be the case since today is Quezon City Day! So instead of getting back home, I decided to pay GJ a visit and try to finish what I can finish.. Nice!
So here are my deadlines for the week.. (By the way for those who don't know me, I am taking my Masteral in Business Ad for two years now and I take classes during night time. I'll discuss more on this excruciating school-work life of mine probably on my next blog. Mean time, here's my itinerary:
- Aug. 20: Hairworks Case in Consumer Behavior (Case on how Mr Wong should market a hair salon in Hongkong where competition is fierce). Did my part here already so I'll just email it.
- Aug 26: Submission of the Final Exam in Stratman. 25% complete. Need to go visit a library for information in the advertising industry in the Philippines. I'm doing a case regarding our company (Alchemy Advertising) and I still need more info on the trends in the industry. I should be discussing this with my partner. Target date of finishing my part is on Friday (Aug 22) so Bry can still have more time to do the answers.
- same date: Enzone & Nautilus Case Submission. For sure Saturday or Sunday we'll have a meeting on this. Should read the case already before Saturday.
- Aug 30: Finals in 280.2. I should start reading and solving sample questions to pass this math/accounting subject

Levi's Copper Jeans

So what am I trying to say? I just want to say that I became a VICTIM - victim of this hype and incidentals that Levi's is generating! Yesterday, Aug 18, 2008 marked the day when I found myself giving my credit card to the counter paying for my first Levi's Jeans! After years of resistance and from shying myself from any Levi labeled store or kiosk, I was convinced that buying one is not bad after all! (Am I really convinced? Huhu) That it is a long term investment and that the jeans is almost impossible to wear (and tear, hopefully)because of its inherent durability! Waah, am I actually saying this?! What I am experiencing is what they call post purchase dissonance. This is when a buyer keeps on asking himself "Did I just buy a 4000 worth jean??!, Did I just make the right decision? Should I have spent this hard earned money for something else??". I'm choosing not to write several sample questions because it's starting to kill me.
By the way, much as I want to buy a 501, the jeans only reaches my ankle (in short, bitin!) Nevertheless, I still bought a Levi's - a Levi's Copper Jeans which is by the way more expensive and astig than a 501. Like a 501, it's also buttoned but the kind saleslady told me that the textile is more comfortable and more durable than any other Levi's, thus a 4,099 tag! Not being too arrogant, this is some of the inconveniences of being taller than the average pinoy dude, style is quite limited depending on how tall (or short) you are. I should have spend around 2,500 to 3,000 for owning a Levi's but because of the length of the jeans, I was forced to buy the more expensive one! Unfair! Jean brands should really think of the "tall people" market - besides everyone is going tall these days! It's ok anyway, the jeans fits me very well and I'll just take care of its very well. As part of my "convince-myself stage", I actually told my mom and my siblings, who were with me on that momentous event in my life, that I look like a celebrity wearing the Copper jeans! They just nod and say "Let's go kuya! Tagal mo talaga bumili!" What the heck!
I'm wearing my authentic Levi's today and I'd probably wear this again the day after next! Haha.. I'm really happy with it! Guys, you should try buying one now while inflation is relatively low. Later on baka 10,000 na yang Levi's. There's no way I would buy a 10,000 worth of jeans!

Mots Letter to Nip
Mot was neither hungry of any attention nor hungry for any sensible and hilarious companionship but for some reason, nip gives him this “high” every day that really sets her apart to other people. He's quite sure she’s not aware of that coz although at times she gives him a dose of cute yabang, she’s not at all assuming or pretentious. Her perky and funny personality goes through his pc which keeps him wanting for more. She’s a natural charm that he guess a few could only resist (a “few” includes her critics. She has enemies too like normal people). She never fails to put mot's fascination down and he’s quite ashamed that he could only compensate this with motmotness and lots of bloopers. He’s just happy and glad that despite of these she still spends time (wee time) chatting with him..
So 9 long months have passed going online almost everyday, not a miniscule of interest for her have gone but instead a special feeling for her even developed. Several times had he tried on keeping this feeling at low. He was denying it at first because he thought he was such a loser telling what his heart says when she is just so miles away. Not long when I realized that time is of the essence, that one day you’ll be just gone without you expecting it. Just like how unexpected this friendship with nip had started. So mot chose to be a loser and tell her he love her. He tried to be as spontaneous as he could so that the most honest things would come out. His not sure though how this confession came to her. Did he turn her off? Did the message get through? How did she react? The heck. He just stand by a resounding phrase “Go with the flow” and let everything go in its place. He just remember how extra happy he is on that day for telling her what he felt. At least now she knows and just hope she’s feeling the same way. HOPEFULLY. Because mot would be in high heavens if she does.
It has been a long time since mot last fell in love. And he almost forgot how it felt. His heart now is not as chubby as before, pulsating rhythmically in the tune of a song he still has to hear – a song from the 90’s with ‘you’ in the song title. Nevertheless, he is sure of what he's going through right now. He's at a moment of elation and he can’t wait for that day that they’d finally meet not only to see how round her eyes is, how long and black her hair is, how would I melt when I see her smile or how giggly she really is in person, but to finally share some time being with her – to finally put a moving face to nip who he really love and treasure.
In the mean time, he’ll be waiting. He's used to it anyway. And there could never be any better reasons not to wait. Besides, he's enjoying what he has with her right now.
It’s the fourteenth again of this month! Yehey. Nip in case you’re reading this, Mot just want to thank you for being you and for feeding his chubby heart each day. He won’t say anything more mushy than saying NIP LOVE YOU, because its true he really do love you and he's looking forward to say this in person..

Its been a long time
..since mom took me to school. wearing those short brown shorts. bringing my baunan that has hi-ro or zest-o in it. its just funny that my baon usually ends with an 'o'.
..since I slept and woke in my bed in the dormitory. when everyone seem to be childlike. doing things that are either naughty or even naughtier. when everyone is very hyped everytime we saw the female beings. the time when everyone is rushing to the cr, queueing on the six (6) shower areas.
..since I was awake on the wee hours to finish dormworks. i was so nerd that time. i just don't know why. what keeps me motivated. what keeps me pathetic. i never regretted it though. it is through those times that i managed to be disciplined. -in a way
..since I have jog in the acad oval. i miss the experience of having a runner's high. i really can't tell how it felt. how i sweat profuriously. how the water rushes through my throat everytime i drank.
..since I saw him. my mom's co creator. who i ask not to see anyway. its just weird that i never really remembered how important he is to me. i was just thankful that he was part in procreating us.
It's really been a long time.. I'm turning 24 next month and I can't help but to miss all those things. I'm looking forward to more memories to reminisce perhaps when i turn 35. Nevertheless, I've been so blessed with what's happening to me. salamat salamat.
